Students of all ethnicities join together to become educated about the Hispanic culture and heritage as part of Spanish Club. Students currently in high school whom are interested in furthering their knowledge about the hispanic heritage should join Spanish Club. The members of the Spanish club learn about Cinco De Mayo, Dia de Muertos, and the Alamo.

Not only is it a break from the everyday school life, but the club also amps up college applications. Many colleges look to see what extracurricular activities and clubs in which applying students participate. They look for diversity within each individual student.

Members not only learn about another culture, but also get to take field trips during school hours. Nearly every student loves going on field trips, especially if they get to take a break from their classes. Each year the Spanish Club takes two trips. One is to the Dallas Museum of Art to explore the Inca exhibit. Descendants of the Inca civilization are present-day peasants of the Andes mountains in South America. They are now almost the entire population of Peru.

The other trip is in the spring and club members go to a Mavericks game. However, in order to go to on the field trips each student must attend the Spanish Club meetings.

“We have meetings once a month,” says Lupita Montez the Spanish Club sponsor.

The meetings last for only 30 minutes. There are even snacks for the after school munchies, such as chips, salsa, and queso. Sometimes the club members even make crafts such as piñatas, and other traditional Hispanic paper mache crafts.

It is only $20 to join and it comes with a T-shirt. To join go to Mrs. Montez’s room, Don’t wait, the field trips are right around the corner.
