This is Chef Jennifer Gorell (or Chef G`s) first year at Kaufman. She previously taught at Athens High School, where she started three culinary arts programs in 2010.

Gorell did not go to a culinary art school, which most chefs only go for about a year or don’t go at all, but has worked in restaurants and kitchens since she was 12 and mentored under many different chefs since 1998.

This is Gorells 27th year teaching. She has mostly taught in Colorado, where she grew up. Gorell`s favorite thing about teaching is the students. She loves the interaction and seeing them gain confidence in their skills and show pride in their work. She also loves Kaufman so far.

”The students are great. The faculty has been very friendly and welcoming, and the administration is supportive,” says Gorell. “Plus I get to help plan the new culinary facility.”

What will the students be learning this year?

“The students will be learning all there is to be in the cooking industry like: all the different types of cuts, how to use all the cooking utensils properly, the history of cooking, and a lot more. This is going to be a great year.”
