The KHS theatre department will be performing “ The Wizard Of Oz” on Nov. 4 at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. and Nov. 5 at 3 p.m. in the new Fine Arts Center.

Theater teacher Alecia King says she has many talented students starting with freshmen  Elaine Frosch who will be playing Dorothy, sophomore Gavin Stacks as the Tin Man, freshman Matthew Blair as the Scarecrow, and sophomore Tori Castaneda as the Lion. Megan Fortner plays the Witch – complete in green paint.

King says the show couldn’t be happening without the Tech Theater crew, who do any type of construction, paint, and sew costumes together.

“They do whatever is needed so the play can be better and stronger,” King said.

In the play and film, a tornado rips through Kansas and Dorothy and her dog Toto are whisked away in their house to the magical land of Oz. They follow the Yellow Brick Road toward the Emerald City to meet the Wizard, and en route they meet a Scarecrow that needs a brain,  a Tin man missing a heart, and a Cowardly Lion who wants courage. The Wizard asks the group to bring him the broom of the Wicked Witch of the west to earn his help.
Tickets are $5 for students and $7 for adults. King is hoping plenty of students make it out to the show. It is KHS’s first musical in the new Fine Arts Center. Following Sunday’s performance is a family-friendly affair where those attending can meet the characters/actors, take pictures, and there will also be games for kids.
