New room, more performances and even more excitement. The KHS Choir is now back in business, busy everyday practicing for performances, contests, and just for fun.

Director Choir Tracy Collins is excited about this school year and is pleased to be in the new facility.

“The best thing is that we are in the new choir room, the No. one awesomest thing ever,” Collins said.

The new choir room is much bigger than the old facility, with four practice rooms for soloists and ensemble singers.

Collins said there is no comparison between the old and new facility,

“The old choir room was not really a choir room, it was two rooms where the wall had been knocked down between them,” she said. “The acoustics were not very good.”

The new choir room, in comparison, is 1,600 square feet, with a director’s office, four practice rooms, and a large storage room. Collins is looking forward to teaching everyday and being a part of the new fine arts facility.

“We are busy, doing a lot of stuff, and a lot of performances, as well a lot of new performances and contests all year,” Collins said.

Throughout this school year there are many performances. The upcoming fall concert will be on Nov. 9.

On Oct. 7, some choir members will begin competing in the all-state regional choir competition.

Senior Megan Poe has been selected as the co-president of choir and is in charge of helping Collins, planning for performances, and help select themes and ideas. They also work with and motivate other choir members.

“I’m proud to be the president of the choir,” Poe said. “I feel like I’ll do a good job as their leader.”

While every choir member practices during their time in the school day, many are excited and some even practice in the afternoon or in the morning when not in choir class and have some free time.

Poe works alongside junior Co-President Kaleigh Wofford, who sees

“I’m looking forward seeing students get out of their comfort zone and do better,” she says. “I would like to also see more students in solo and ensemble. There’s so much going on, we have more performances planned this year than last year. We’re also trying to do some things that we haven’t done before.”
