The freshmen team achieved their first win of the year 22-13 against the Terrell Tigers last Thursday.

Jesse Crutcher scored the first touchdown on a 13-yard run. The game was tied at halftime 7-7, but the Lions took control of the game with two second half touchdowns. Quarterback Darius McGee scored on a 58-yard scamper to give the Lions their first lead in the third quarter.

In the fourth quarter, McGee also threw a 16-yard touchdown pass to Landon Kelly to give Kaufman a commanding lead. Kelly jumped into the air and snatched the ball away from two Terrell Tiger defenders on the touchdown reception and Troy Green rumbled into the end zone for a two-point conversion.

“The freshmen lions had an outstanding game on up to the victory,” coach Jason Blackmon said.

Johnathan Gamez had a solid game on defense with multiple tackles and Dillon King had some solid tackles also.

On Sept. 21, the freshmen lost a close game to Denton Braswell, 21-12. McGee performed well running the ball and passing. He also scored the first touchdown of the game. Also scoring was Kelly, who caught a touchdown pass from Chanin Holiness on a trick play – a fake reverse pass.

Some players who stood out on on defense were Holiness, Troy Green, Louise Puente, and Kolby Taylor.

The Lions travel to Crandall on Thursday to take on the Pirates. The game starts at 5:30 p.m.
