The Kaufman Lady Lions sub-varsity teams are rocking the season so far. The JV team is undefeated in district, the freshman team is also off to a nice start.

The freshman team competed at the Wills Point tournament recently, defeating Chapel Hill and Emory to bring home the consolation trophy. The girls only lost one game to Greenville.

“They played hard, but they fell a little short,” said coach Corrie Williams.

Sophomore Brooke Shaw ready for a big serve.

In the tournament, Evelyn Ramos had three kills and one block. Logan Bailey served a total of 15 points in two sets.

The JV had a great start to the year by bringing home first place in the Wills Point tournament.

“There was definitely teamwork and we were persistent and relentless in our attack,” coach Nick Morales said. “The offense was moving quicker and the passers were giving the setters opportunities to make a play.”

Brooke Shaw and Kaylee Morrow played great defense, Morales said. Adia Mackenzie and Adi Abanilla were giving hitters opportunities to spike the ball, and hitters Lexi Guerrero, Abbey Gunter, Hailey Lisenbee, Taylor Sandberg, Avery Gunter, Jocelyn Turner, Kyla West, and Aleisha Ford were putting the ball away.

“It was an all-around team effort and I look forward to even more success the remainder of the season,” Morales said.
