The junior varsity football team suffered its first loss of the season last Thursday with a score of 14-0 against Bishop Lynch.

The score was tied 0-0 at halftime, but the Friars scored two touchdowns in the second half. Coaches said the team played hard despite the loss.

“The boys will keep pushing for wins every game and are all determined  to win district,” coach Jason Blackmon said. “They have pushed themselves so far this year and will continue to do so. They will have more victories  along the way.”

The team beat Mineola in Week 2 of the football season with a score of 27-0 last Thursday night.

Scoring leaders for the team were quarterback La’Damain Bailey, running back Kevon Butler, and John Maldonado.

On Aug. 31, the Lions defeated Lindale 26-6. Bailey passed for two touchdown passes, and rushed for a 40-yard touchdown. Coaches said some outstanding players of the game were Bailey, Maldonado, Nathan Vickery, Austin Rocha, Blake Smith, Daniel Trejo, and Butler.
