With baseball season just underway, the Texas Rangers opened their season with a loss against the Cleveland Indians. Black and Gold takes a look back at last season’s numbers and forward to this season

Last season, the Rangers finished with a 95-67 record, one the team’s best seasons. Texas was led by a  strong pitching lineup that included two aces in Yu Darvish and Cole Hamels. The team’s ERA was a 4.37.

The Rangers were also led by a strong batting lineup including Adrian Beltre, Rougned Odor, Ian Desmond, and Elvis Andrus. Last season, the Rangers were ranked seventh in team batting average.

The Rangers have also lost some key players this season like Desmond, Mitch Moreland, Colby Lewis, and Derek Holland. This can really have an impact on the team. They lost a main part of their pitching rotation in Lewis, hits leader in Desmond, and possibly the best defensive first baseman in the the league in Moreland.

With those players leaving the Rangers had to make some moves. In the offseason, they picked up all-star material pitcher with Tyson Ross, but he is dealing with an injury at the moment and most likely won’t be ready for a while. They also picked up a power hitting first baseman in Mike Napoli, who has been in and out of the Rangers organization.

My pick – With these additions and losses, the Rangers are going to go 102-60 in the regular season and then win the World Series for the first time in franchise history.
