The varsity boys soccer team earned their first bi-district game against the Princeton Panthers on March 23. The wind was blowing fiercely but Kaufman won 4-2.

In the first half, Kaufman had the wind against them. This meant the Lions had to be better defensively. The team had some trouble getting used to these conditions, which led to an early goal in favor of Princeton.

Then Kaufman had an attacking chance, and the Princeton defense gave up a corner. Kaufman took the corner quickly and senior Abraham Garcia had a left-footed shot into the bottom left corner and the keeper had no chance of stopping it.

The Lions defense locks it down.

The last few seconds of the first half, Princeton had a free kick. Kaufman tried clearing the ball but it was going everywhere inside the penalty area and eventually went into the back of the net making the score 2-1 at the end of the first half.

“This can’t be our last game,”  senior Caleb Linn said at halftime.

In the second half, the Lions were looking forward to using the wind in their favor. Within six minutes, Kaufman was able to equalize the score. Junior defender Roberto Huerta used the wind in order to send the ball to forward Garcia, who was able to score his second goal.

Three minutes later, Kaufman had a free kick 30 yards back and Linn kicked a great ball into the penalty area which was scored by Garcia, completing the hat trick.
Halfway through the second half, Linn took another free kick 40 yards out and hit the crossbar and sophomore midfielder Erik Rosas had the rebound to score. The goal sealed the win 4-2.
