On Oct. 19, the KHS Roaring Lion Band went to the UIL marching contest and scored straight superior ratings for the seventh consecutive time and advanced to the area marching contest.

The band scored superior ratings at all contests this season including: Sunnyvale marching contest, Little Elm marching contest, Mineola marching contest and the UIL marching contest.

The band has advanced and ranked high in the finals competition of each of these contests as well.

“I feel like it was certainly the best performance we’ve ever had,” assistant drum major Hannah Polk said. Others were also pleased with the performance.

“I felt our UIL marching contest performance was by far the best performance of the season and even the best performance in the history of the kaufman high school marching band,” says band president Acurria Washington. “The band made a tremendous amount of progress this 2016 marching season.”

UIL Area Marching Contest

The KHS band fought their way to the area finals competition last Saturday night in the UIL Area B marching contest.  The band finished in ninth place out of 10 but missed out on state by four spots.

The band qualified for area for the seventh consecutive time and finals for the fifth consecutive time.

“It was heartbreaking to hear that we did not advance into the State competition, but i’m honored to have gone through the process with some of the greatest friends,” sophomore band member Julissa Rocha said.

The marching band finished it’s competitive season with five straight superior scores and finalists in all competitions.
