Marching contest season is underway for the Marching Lions Band and the band recently participated in several contests including a nice finish in the finals against some big 5A and 6A schools. Here is a look at some the band’s progress at recent contests.

While everyone else was sleeping in and probably going to the State Fair last Monday, the band went to contest in Mineola.

The band got to school early and had a pre-run of their show before they hit the road for contest.

The band members had a good performance and earned a First Division in prelims. The band made the finals and placed fifth overall out of 10 bands.

Little Elm

The band headed to Little Elm on Oct. 8 and were determined to place in the finals against some great 5A and 6A bands.

Band members thought they had one of their best performances and they made the finals.

In finals, the band didn’t have the same energy as in prelims, but they still did well overall – placing ninth.

Many band students had mixed emotions that Saturday night, but they knew what they had work to do and rest as much up to be ready for the Mineola contest on that following monday.

The Kaufman Roaring Lion Band went to its first contest on Oct. 1 ago in Sunnyvale.

The band was the last marching band to perform in prelims. The band had a slight mistake in a few sections during the beginning, according to band members, but immediately recovered.

The band received a first division in prelims and placed fourth in the finals out of 10 bands.

“Because of our first performance, I didn’t think we were going to make Top 5 in finals,” sophomore Julissa Rocha said. “I was disappointed, but it’s okay the contest taught us what we needed to work on for the next one.”
The band will be back in action on Wednesday at UIL competitions in Denton.
